The Great Commission is the instruction of Jesus to his disciples, that they spread the faith to all nations of the world. It is described in the book of Matthew 28:16-20.
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (NIV)
At Wakonda Christian Church we believe in reaching out to our neighbors in our community. On this page you'll find just a few of our many outreach opportunities. Our strong belief in community outreach is deeply rooted in the Great Commission, contained within the book of Matthew. Refer to the Great Commission section on the left-side of this page for more information.
WAKONDA LITERACY CENTER
The Wakonda Literacy Center is focused on improving the reading ability of children from local elementary schools. Each child is partnered with a single mentor throughout the duration of the program. The program has been very successful and most of the volunteers continue to be involved with the Literacy Center year after year. The Wakonda Literacy Center meets weekly during the school year. For more information, please contact the church office at (515) 285-8394.
